Comparison

SynergyEHR vs DrChrono

Both give you an EHR with billing. The real difference is what you pay for the software — and who actually works your claims. An honest, sourced comparison.

The short version

DrChrono is a per-provider subscription with billing software built in, plus an optional managed-billing service. SynergyEHR gives you the EHR at no licence cost and works your billing for a percentage of collections. The software is free because the billing is the business.

The real difference

A subscription bills you whether or not the claims get worked

With a per-provider EHR you pay the same licence every month, then you either work your own denials or pay extra for someone who will. Two costs — and the job of chasing every dollar is yours.

Our model has one cost. We're paid a share of what we actually collect for you, so working your denials, your aged A/R and your credentialing isn't an add-on — it's the only way we get paid. The EHR is free because it's the tool we use to do that job well.

Where DrChrono may fit better

An honest note

DrChrono has a mature open API and an iPad-native experience with on-device photo capture that specialties like dermatology and aesthetics genuinely value. If you want to keep billing entirely in-house and you're committed to an Apple-device workflow, that's a real strength and a fair reason to choose them. SynergyEHR is the better fit if you'd rather not pay a per-provider licence and want a team whose pay depends on actually collecting.
